Leeds University teamed up with Big Blue Whale to create an eye-catching whiteboard animation on wound care. The aim? To spark conversation on an often-ignored topic and make healthcare education engaging and impactful.
Our collaboration with Leeds University began through conversations at business networking events, where we discussed the idea of producing a set of educational videos focusing on wound care in modern healthcare. The university wanted a whiteboard-style animation to spark interest and conversation around a topic that often goes unnoticed.
After several meetings with Leeds University professors, we finalized a script for the video. With the script locked in, we moved on to developing detailed storyboards, coordinating closely with an illustrator sourced by the university.
On filming day, the Big Blue Whale team set up early, arranging lighting and props at the illustrator’s desk. Once the illustrator arrived, we reviewed the storyboards to ensure everyone was aligned before beginning to capture the top-down timelapse footage of each of the eight illustrations. We also filmed additional content, such as coffee being poured and pages turning, to serve as creative transitions between scenes.
A professional voice-over artist recorded the script, and we synchronized this audio with the timelapse footage during the editing phase. To elevate the final video, we incorporated digital animation elements, adding a unique layer of engagement that set the content apart from typical whiteboard animations.
The final video exceeded Leeds University’s expectations and was prominently featured on their website and social media channels. It successfully sparked conversations around wound care, encouraging a broader audience to consider the important issues highlighted in the animation.
